ATOM is committed to and passionate about enhancing patient care and experience. Regardless of access to clinical trials, every patient deserves to receive access to quality standards of care.

To show our commitment, we conduct Standards of Care Workshops to help provide information and training to clinicians around the world to enhance knowledge, clinical care, and outcomes.

The most recent workshop took place in 2025 with four ATOM members — Managing Director Michelle Eagle, Senior Master Physiotherapist Anna Mayhew, Director of Operations Kyle Haas and Consultant Trainer Lavinia Fanelli — traveling to Nairobi, Kenya.

They partnered with Dr. Pauline Samia at the Aga Khan University and held a workshop May 25-26 with 20 physical therapists and clinicians. Over those two days, they focused on standards of care and assessments for their patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

“We received great feedback, and people expressed how much they learned and appreciated our efforts,” Haas said. “Communication and collaboration has continued in the months since our visit, and we’ve been able to address follow-up questions as they have come up.”

ATOM aims to conduct one or two workshops annually, with the location and beneficiary of the workshops based on funding, and more importantly, finding a willing and able partner that can help plan and facilitate the multi-day visit.

Additional workshops in recent years have included trips to Cape Town, South Africa, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
