Dr. Lindsay Alfano

Dr. Lindsay Alfano, DPT, PCS is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University and a Principal Investigator in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital where she serves an integral role in planning and designing clinical trials while contributing to protocol development, outcome measure selection, statistical analysis, and interpretation for ongoing clinical trials within the Jerry R. Mendell Center for Gene Therapy and throughout the wider research community.

Dr. Alfano’s research goals focus on incorporating the standardized use of clinical outcome assessments to proactively monitor and manage disease progression, while elevating the standard of care for patients. In addition, she strives to develop and optimize assessment tools to measure meaningful change in function while minimizing the burden of testing. She has co-developed novel outcomes including the ACTIVE & ACTIVE-mini systems, 100-meter timed test, and the Neuromuscular Gross Motor Outcome (GRO).  In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Alfano and the physical therapy team at Nationwide Children’s Hospital led initiatives to understand and validate remote testing for patients with neuromuscular diseases for clinical and research purposes.
