Favorite part about working with ATOM:
“The people! Meeting and training new clinical evaluators, the relationships we build with the clinical evaluators who work across multiple studies, and spending time with the rest of the ATOM team. It’s always a blast when we all get together for meetings and trainings.”
Areas of research that excite me the most:
“Honestly, all of it! There’s so much we don’t know in neuromuscular disease. Gene editing therapies, advanced RNA therapies, combination therapies — we have so much to explore. There is an untapped potential for improving patient function and their quality of life.”
Biggest challenge for research in the next five years:
“I’m worried about federal funding cuts, freezes and grant terminations in the United States. I believe it will become increasingly difficult to secure funding for research that is less appealing to large sponsors — particularly studies focused on ultra-rare diseases, small populations, or studies in the early development stages.”
Fun fact:
“I live in Los Angeles, so people sometimes ask if I’ve seen or met anyone famous. I’m terrible at recognizing people, so I bet there are many I just didn’t notice. I used to nanny for an actor who has a child with a disability while I was in PT school, so I did run into some Hollywood stars on the weekends when I was working. ”
